Spiritual Lives of Scientists: Finding A Source of Meaning in Life

Thursday, March 27, 2025 – 1:00pm
location TBC after registration

Facilitators: Prof. Daniel Jackson and Sabbi Lall.

In this small discussion group, we will examine finding meaning in the context of an intense research focus. What sources of support might be available through other domains and activities in life, and how do they intersect with creativity at the cutting edge of human knowledge? Prof. Jackson will discuss what supports resilience and provides meaning as he navigates the stresses of a successful academic life and his work as a photographer.

Daniel Jackson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT. He is an Associate Director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, where he leads the Software Design Group. He is also a member of the editorial board of the MIT Press, and the advisory board of MEET. He receives the 2017 Arthur C. Smith Award and the 2018 MLK Leadership Award. He is also an accomplished photographer and author of Portraits of Resilience, which explores depression and related challenges through images and stories.

Sign-up is limited to eight students/post-docs.
