Systems Change: A Hands-On IAP Workshop

Thursday, January 22, 2026 – 9am—4pm
Thursday, January 22, 2026 – 9:00am

News got you down?  Be the change!

Are you curious about how big, complex challenges—like climate change, global development, education, and well-being—can actually be addressed? Many in our MIT community are already working on systems change across these domains. Now it’s your turn to dive in.

Join us for an interactive, one-day workshop designed for MIT students, staff, faculty, and affiliates. Together, we’ll explore practical tools for systems thinking and systems sensing—skills that help you see the bigger picture, explore underlying dynamics, develop collective agency and empowerment, and navigate complexity.

This isn’t a lecture. It’s a participatory experience where you’ll:

  • Practice applying systems tools to real-world problems.
  • Learn from peers across diverse fields.
  • Discover how these approaches can serve your projects and aspirations.

What you’ll get to try:

  • Grounding & Contemplative Practice – Stay centered amidst complexity.
  • Dialogue & Check-ins – Nurture deeper connections.
  • Systems Thinking Archetypes – Understand recurring patterns.
  • Personal Visioning & Creative Tension – Explore what matters to us.

Who should come? Anyone in the MIT community—students, staff, faculty, affiliates—no prior experience required. Just bring curiosity and an open mind.

Hosted by: MIT Systems Awareness Lab, MIT Center for Constructive Communication, MIT Office of Sustainability, MIT Priscilla King Center for Social Impact, Indigenous Spirit at MIT, MIT Writing Rhetoric and Professional Communication, MIT Radius, and MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program

Keep the Momentum Going: Join Our Systems Change Community

This workshop is just the beginning! We’re building a vibrant MIT Community of Practice where systems thinking tools and ideas become part of education and projects across campus.

After IAP, you’re invited to join optional monthly meetups in Spring 2026 to keep exploring new tools, share experiences, and connect with others passionate about systems change. These sessions will be peer-led, hands-on, and focused on collaboration and knowledge exchange.
