Bridging Societal Divides in the US via Social Media

Fall 2020

Looking to create change via social media? Join us!

We know that a healthy democratic system and society benefit from the active involvement of people who have different backgrounds, experiences and opinions - so long as we can find respectful, non-violent ways to understand one another and find solutions together.

During Fall 2020, we're offering the opportunity to 8 - 10 MIT undergraduates to build their own practice around constructive engagement through social media. Explicitly, we’ll focus on societal divides, including anti-racism and political depolarization. The initiative will be led by Kate Mytty, a MIT DUSP alum, currently a Visiting Lecturer at MIT Center for Real Estate who directs MIT Create and an Instructor at MIT D-Lab. She is also the Community Transformation Lead at Build Up. She has co-led The Commons project through Build Up for four years. Kate will be assisted by Patricia-Maria, the Assistant Coordinator of Radius at MIT. Kate and Patricia-Maria have collaborated together on The Commons project for over four years, and have worked on numerous projects with the MIT PKG Public Service Center.

This program is part of the ELO, the Undergraduate Experiential Learning Opportunities. If you’re interested, please contact us by Sunday, September 13 at 6:00p ET.  Details are here:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l_JwI-f96_1gDBJE-01P-uEg9fbh_lApc9FXLXjvlc8/edit#
