From A Different Perspective

Considering different perspectives from various lenses can be eye-opening and fascinating. Last Thursday, we hosted a "Radius Goes to the Theater" event at the Central Square Theater.  The Return to Morality was a thought-provoking play about the underbelly of politics, media and greed. I'm still thinking about the issues that the play raised, particularly after watching the presidential debate last evening.

Music also offers a different perspective and lens on the world.  The Lorelei Ensemble, a local professional vocal ensemble comprising nine women, offers programming that ranges from early to contemporary repertoire. This weekend (October 1 and 2), they are performing a ground-breaking program, Part & Parcel, that examines our experience with technology.

Inspired by MIT Professor Sherry Turkle's book, Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and Less from Each Other, this program examines recent phenomena of social media and device culture.  The performance will encourage audiences and singers to consider the necessary intimacy and selflessness of ensemble work, alongside the necessary preservation of the individuals within it.

This type of thoughtful and thought-provoking experience goes hand in hand with our work with mindfulness through our Hack Your Mind series (see our October 7 program) and our upcoming series on finding purpose (Choose Your Own Adventure--details to come).  Whenever we examine ourselves, ideas and the world around us through a new and different lens, we are given an opportunity to see life anew.

Please join us throughout the semester as we seek those opportunities.
